1968 911 Porsche SWB, last year of the short wheelbase 911’s. 60,606 original miles from new at time of listing. Full owner History from new. Documented numbers matching driveline and original desirable color combination of Irish green exterior with Beige interior as noted on the Kardex that accompanies this 911. Unlike most patched together Porsche cars of this era, this car still retains its original Body panels and solid original floors.
The original owner, James Cunningham of Sherborn, MA purchased the car from Foreign Motors INC in Boston Ma on August 12th 1968. He sold the car on May 18th 1972 to Derek Persehouse with approximately 47,500 miles on the clock. The car was only driven in summer and fall and kept in the owners barn in New Hampshire away from the elements. The left hand Cam broke in September of 1980, parts were purchased, and repairs were started in the spring of 1981. It was decided shortly after to suspend the project until sufficient funds were available to have the work performed by an outside shop. The car was stored in the same barn from that point on with the exception of the winter of 1994 which was spent outside in the yard of Northern Motorsport in Wilder VT awaiting repair. With two young children, a house renovation, and demanding professional commitments the decision to sell the car came in 1995 with the odometer now reading 53,274 miles. The next Caretaker and the person who commissioned the repairs and restoration work on the car was Tim Britton of Peru VT. Work was completed in 2009 and the car was later sold to Steven Gross who had the car in his collection until August of 2025 when it was purchased by Tucson Classic Motor Co.
The car had been rarely driven and was sitting for a few years. We commissioned a full brake overhaul with new calipers and master cylinder. The fuel tank was removed, boiled out, and refinished. The weber Carburetors were rebuilt and tuned by Redline Service. The All new plugs , wires, and hoses as needed were replaced. The pedal box and shifter bushings were replaced.
The original 2.2 liter engine as documented by the cars Kardex was fully rebuilt and upgraded to S Specs including 1968 S Heads, cams, and carbs. The car moves out well! The engine is mated to its original 4 speed manual transmission also rebuilt and shifts great.
The car was stripped and repainted its factory original “Irish Green” paint. Fully sanded and buffed to a mirror finish with excellent body gaps throughout. Still looks showroom new with the exception of very minor and few rock chip touch ups up front and a ding near the license plate on the center rear panel. (detailed in Gallery) The car retains its original body panels and floors. The only rust repair performed was around the battery box and it was done professionally. The only evidence is the receipt when work was performed.
The interior remains largely original and is in very good shape showing only minimal wear. The elastic straps on the door pockets were repaired . The dash is very nice. Still retains its original headliner. All of the original seat belts are in place with original dated tags. The pop out rear windows are in great shape as is all of the original glass . The windshield was replaced with new. All of the gauges are in great working order.
Rolls on restored Fuchs with 195/60R15 Pirelli P6000 tires. Still retains its original Spare, tool Kit, and owners manual. Comes with a binder of receipts, old title copies, previous Bill of Sales, former registrations, and insurance cards, and the copy of the original Kardex documenting engine, transmission, selling dealer, options, and color combination.
